Have you ever seen a martial art that looks like a dance, an acrobatic game, and a fight—all at once? That’s capoeira, a unique art form from Brazil that is now practiced worldwide, including right here in Bengaluru and Mumbai.
At Capoeira Academy India, we teach capoeira as a way to build strength, rhythm, flexibility, and confidence—while connecting to a rich cultural tradition.

The Origins of Capoeira
Capoeira began in Brazil over 400 years ago, developed by African slaves as a form of resistance, disguised as dance so their masters would not recognize it as a fight.
It is a blend of:
Martial techniques – kicks, escapes, sweeps
Dance & movement – flowing steps, playful exchanges
Music & rhythm – drums, berimbau, clapping, and call-and-response songs
Capoeira was born as more than just a martial art—it was a way to survive, celebrate, and build community.
Why Capoeira is Different
Unlike many martial arts, capoeira is not about aggression or competition—it’s about dialogue through movement.
🤸 Acrobatics & agility – flips, cartwheels, handstands
🥁 Live music – every class has instruments and songs
🎭 Playfulness – the “game” is full of strategy, trickery, and creativity
🌍 Culture & tradition – capoeira carries history, songs, and rituals

This makes capoeira not just a workout, but a whole-body and whole-culture experience.
Benefits of Practicing Capoeira
Whether you’re in Bengaluru, Mumbai, or anywhere in India, capoeira offers benefits for all ages:
💪 Builds strength, stamina, and flexibility
🧠 Improves focus, rhythm, and coordination
🎶 Teaches music, rhythm, and Portuguese songs
👨👩👧 Perfect for kids and families – fun, playful, safe
🤝 Creates a community of friendship and respect
Many students say capoeira doesn’t feel like a workout—it feels like play.
